Online Dating Tips: You Had Me At Hello Doesn’t Work

You won’t believe how many people put a boring “hello” in the subject line of their first email to their dream guy or at least potential date. Sending your first email can be scary and the fear of rejections probably plays a big part in why men and women stick to a simple “hi” or “hello”, if you don’t seem to eager than it doesn’t hurt as much if he doesn’t reply.

But he needs to read what you wrote before he can email back and this is the first hurdle you need to overcome. You can blame him all you like when you don’t get a reply but just imagine how you would react if you got that an email in your very full inbox with a “hello” as a subject. Would you:
1. be very curious, you just have to open it right now!
2. think “I’ll read it later” as it doesn’t seem very interesting
3. not even notice it was there or maybe even think it was a spam email.

The chances are your dream guy is thinking the same thing. He wants to feel special just as much as you do! If he doesn’t open your email how can he get to know you or write back. You need to stand out in the inbox first and make sure he reads your email. Basicly “You had me at hello” just doesn’t work in online dating.

With most of your competition using just “Hi” it’s not hard to get noticed in the inbox. Have another look at his profile, does he mention anything you could respond to? Your one goal here it for him to be curious enough to open your email.

Keep in mind that most people check their email while they are at work or on their phone while waiting, stuck in traffic or on the train home, they one have a few second each and every time the log in and only open the emails they find important at that point. Maybe they will read all the other emails later when they are at home but you don’t want to be one of those emails.

Whether your writing your first or 10th email make sure you are different than all the other women emailing this guy. Be creative and make sure your subject line catches his eye as soon as he checks his inbox. Get him to open your email and you’ve raised your chances of getting a date big time!
